Zeppelin are back in court over copyright issues to ‘Stairway to Heaven’.
The original suit was time barred via a statute of limitations, but, when the song was ‘remastered’ in 2014, the clock started ticking again.
In NZ [which is pretty close to UK law] copyright law is codified and quite a number of legal tests have to be applied to find a breach of copyright. Without applying the tests, my first instinct is that Zeppelin will likely win the case. However, I’ll run through the steps [good revision] and see if my ‘gut’ was correct, or has misled me on the stairway.
