Another job this morning is to complete an application for a ‘stay of costs’. This arose from the case that was appealed substantively from the Employment Relations Authority, to the Employment Court.

We received the determination on costs, awarded at $1,500.oo, which we quite liked, reduced as it was from a claim of $11,000.oo.

So, we didn’t want to appeal the costs, but, we don’t want to pay anything until the case is decided on appeal.

Therefore an application for a stay of costs. The form is provided by the Employment Court, but filed in the Employment Authority.

Now if I were charging professionally, probably 1 hour would be required to draft the application, and, fees would be payable. Easy to see how fees rack up.
