I’ve been selling some shares in the long term portfolios. If you don’t have a plan to sell, then you will never actually take profits. Unless you own the operating profits of the companies as Buffett does, neither will you be able to reallocate those profits into potentially higher return investments.

I’m not talking about selling your entire position, just part, so that you can recoup profits and original cost. In this way you start to use the market’s money to compound your gains over time.

I’m looking for something to allocate a cash hoard that has built up from these sales, nothing much currently. I’m experiencing the same issue as late comers to the current market.
